Abstract: The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is issuing this Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) to encourage applications that investigate the development and delivery of screening methods for subthreshold and diagnosable eating disorders in naturalistic settings for children, adolescents, and adults. An emphasis is placed on research that seeks to develop and test low-burden, feasible screening methods, addresses inequities in detection among populations with health disparities, utilizes existing setting staff and/or lay/alternate providers to aid in screening efforts, aims to quantify the resources necessary to implement these approaches, and/or proposes to identify and address factors that hinder/facilitate implementation and scale-up.
Assay Development and Screening for Discovery of Validated Chemical Hits for Brain Disorders (R01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)
Funding Opportunity ID: PAR-23-168
Upcoming deadlines: February 5th, 2025; June 5th, 2025; October 5th, 2025
Abstract: The overarching goal of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to support the development and validation of screening assays for the discovery of validated hits that can be used in future drug discovery/development efforts for identifying potential drug candidates for the treatment of mental illness. For purposes of this initiative, a hit is defined as a compound that has the desired activity in a compound screen and whose activity is confirmed upon retesting in orthogonal assays. Stages of discovery research covered by this NOFO include 1) assay development; 2) primary screen implementation to identify initial screening hits (high throughput target-focused screens, or moderate throughput screens); and 3) hit validation using a series of assays and initial medicinal chemistry inspection to prioritize the hit set.
Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Advancing Precision Imaging for Enhanced Diagnosis and Treatment of Oral Lesions
Funding Opportunity ID: NOT-DE-25-034
Upcoming deadlines: October 5th, 2024 to September 8th, 2027
Abstract: This Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) is to encourage research projects to enhance accuracy, detection, diagnosis, and personalized treatment of oral lesions and inflammatory processes using advanced imaging technologies. By integrating cutting-edge imaging modalities into clinical workflows, optimizing lesion detection methods, and refining single-cell analysis, this NOSI seeks to bridge existing gaps in precision imaging for oral diseases. The long-term goal is to establish standardized quantitative imaging metrics, integrate imaging into clinical trials, and combine imaging data with multi-omics information for comprehensive profiling of oral lesions. Through collaborative research efforts, this NOSI strives to accelerate the translation of breakthrough discoveries in imaging into clinical applications, ultimately advancing the management of acute and chronic oral health conditions and improving patient outcomes.

Upcoming deadlines: February 5th, 2025; June 5th, 2025; October 5th, 2025
Abstract: This Funding Opportunity Announcement (NOFO) invites research grant applications that propose the development and evaluation of novel radioligands for positron emission tomography (PET) or single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging in human brain and the incorporation of pilot or clinical feasibility evaluation from previously collected data in pre-clinical studies. These studies are expected to provide the requisite data needed to advance promising PET ligands for use in clinical research. Projects proposing only preclinical animal studies should consider the companion NOFO (PAR-23-164).
