Dr. Katrin Schrenk-Siemens forskning

Dr. Schrenk-Siemens research interest is the development of translational tools based on human pluripotent stem cell-derived neurons and glia cells that can help to bridge the gap between rodent model systems and the human organism. Her main focus is the sensory nervous system with a special interest in pain perception. She has developed a novel coculture system between human peripheral nociceptors and central excitatory neurons that resembles the first synapse of the pain pathway and which she aims to use to better understand mechanisms of hypersensitivity and to assess novel analgesic modulators
