Title: Aggregatibacter actionomycetemcomitans in health and disease

Anders Johansson has a position as an associate professor at the Department of Odontology at Umeå university, and is affiliated to the division of Molecular Periodontology.

He defended his thesis in February 2000 at Umeå university and became an associate professor in experimental periodontitis 2006 at the same university.

His research focus is on host-parasite interactions involved in the etiology of periodontitis. A special focus has been but on the gram negative bacterium Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. This is a bacterium with many faces and a number of tools with capacity to cause imbalance in the host response.

Anders Johansson's research has mainly been experimental, but includes also a number of clinical studies. During his long experience of periodontal research he has established an important network with scientists around the world.
