Föreläsningar och seminarier Metabolic Control of Muscle Function and Exercise Performance: From Molecule to Man
Speaker: Niels Ørtenblad, PhD Professor and Head of research Unit Dept. of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics, University of Southern Denmark.
Niels Ørtenblad is Professor and head of Muscle Physiology and Biomechanics Research Unit at the Department of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics, University of Southern Denmark and Affiliated Professor at University of British Columbia, Canada and Adjunct Professor at the Australian Catholic University, Melbourne.
Dr. Ørtenblad´s research focuses on the role of energy turn-over in cellular function, with special emphasis on muscle cells. His work has advanced our understanding of how cellular metabolism regulates function through mechanisms involving ion regulation. He has demonstrated that glycogen plays a crucial role in muscle contractility and fatigue and that energy compartmentalization within the cell may be key to understanding how metabolism integrates with cellular function. This is especially relevant for excitable tissues with high and fluctuating energy demands, such as skeletal and cardiac muscle, as well as the brain. His research spans from whole-body exercise studies in elite athletes and diseased populations to investigations at the organelle and protein levels.
