"A randomized controlled trial of integral stimulation speech therapy for childhood apraxia of speech"
Abstract: Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a pediatric motor speech disorder that impairs the planning of movements needed for intelligible speech. Various treatment approaches for CAS exist, including integral stimulation treatment (“watch me, listen to me, and say what I say”). Nevertheless, the current evidence base is limited both in study quality and scope, with very few randomized controlled trials (RCT).
This presentation will discuss an ongoing RCT of integral stimulation treatment for CAS called ASSIST (Apraxia of Speech Systematic Integral Stimulation Treatment). The study is conducted in the format of an intensive summer camp for children with CAS between 4 and 9 years old. Preliminary findings will be discussed.
