Abstrakt (på engelska)

How do we make sense of the world around us? Everyday we encounter a large amount of sensory stimuli, some of which are generated by our own actions. In order to establish meaningful interactions with the external world, it is essential that we are able to understand the relation between our actions and the resulting sensory consequences. This action-feedback monitoring is an important process that aids in motor learning and distinguishing self-generated from externally generated stimuli. In this talk, I will discuss the predictive mechanisms underlying this process, focusing on how these are implemented in the human brain. I will provide an overview of our work on multisensory action feedback processing, self-other distinction, and the role of the efference copy. Furthermore, I will touch upon some preliminary data investigating the origin of action-based predictions and their similarity with general sensory predictions outside the context of action.
