Vad gjorde du innan du började på AIMES?

"I received my Bachelor degree in Biology and my Master degree in Biomedical Engineering from RWTH Aachen University, Germany. Before moving to Stockholm, I completed my PhD at the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology, Stuttgart and the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen, Germany, in the fields of Organ-on-Chip and tissue engineering.

Throughout my PhD, I spent two research stays abroad at University of California, Berkeley, USA. I have experience in microfabrication and microfluidics as well as cell culture and tissue engineering, and the combination of these different aspects to OoCs", säger Julia Rogal.

Vad fick dig att välja AIMES?- Och vad ser du mest fram emot?

"Interdisciplinarity has always been an important aspect of my scientific career, so I was very happy to join the AIMES team in the beginning of January. I am the most looking forward to collaborating with fellow researchers from diverse scientific backgrounds to promote biomedical research".

Vad handlar din forskning om?

"I am working on the development of patient-specific iPSC-based blood-brain barrier (BBB)-on-chip models for studying mechanisms of metabolism across the BBB. We will also use this in vitro platform for disease modeling of inborn errors of metabolism (a group of disorders marked by a genetic defect leading to disrupted biochemical pathways, predominantly manifested neurologically) for individual patients".
