PhD projects - The SciLifeLab & Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS)
The DDLS program focuses on four strategic research areas of data-driven research: cell and molecular biology, evolution and biodiversity, precision medicine and diagnostics, epidemiology and biology of infection. A new recurring call is announced for PhD projects within academia and industry. The calls will fund 20 projects for academic PhD students and 7 for industrial PhD students. The calls include two stages – selection of PhD projects and selection of PhD students. In the first stage, DDLS invites PIs to suggest exciting data-driven research projects and training opportunities for PhD students in these areas. Each grant is 3.25 MSEK for four years to cover salary for a PhD student.

Stiftelsens övergripande syfte är att främja forskningen om den mänskliga hjärnan vid svenska universitet. Särskilt prioriteras patientrelaterad och kliniskt fokuserad forskning. Stiftelsen har också som mål att stimulera yngre forskare.
Forskningsprogrammet ska innehålla tydliga mål så att resultatet kan utvärderas. Storleken på utdelningsbara medel uppgår till 3 160 000 kronor.

Challenges in working life 2024 – Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare (Forte)
The aim of the call is to promote good working conditions. Applications must focus on one of the strategies: (i) Improving the prerequisites and conditions for organising and undertaking work considering different forms of employment; (ii) Developing organisation and management with the aim of improving working conditions and efficiency; (iii) The significance of digital technology to an efficient and flexible working life linked to people’s conditions and needs. Within the grant period of July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2027, one can apply for a maximum of SEK 3 million for a two-year, and SEK 5 million for a three-year project.

Research projects - Scandinavian Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy
The Swedish Society of Medicine invites applications for its Scandinavian Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy Foundation research grants. These support research or travel related to the treatment of infectious diseases with antibacterial, antiviral, antimycotic or antiparasitic agents. Research projects with Nordic collaboration are encouraged. Applicants must be members of the Nordic Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, NSCMID.. The membership must have been granted no later than 1 November of the year before the application.

Forskningsprojekt och stipendier - Svenska Läkaresällskapet (SLS)
SLS utlyser forskningsanslag i form av medel till forskningsprojekt för medicinskt forskning, forskning med fokus på klimat, hälsa & hållbar sjukvård, samarbetsprojekt inom primärvården, postdoc stipendier och Thomas Ihre stipendium inom gastrokirurgi.
Forskningsprojekt med fokus på klimat, hälsa & hållbar sjukvård - SLS har antagit en policy för klimat, hälsa och hållbar sjukvård för att bidra till minskad klimatpåverkan och en hållbar hälso- och sjukvård. I syfte att belysa kopplingen klimat och hälsa, verka för en hållbar sjukvård samt att som organisation ta ansvar för att förbättra sitt klimatavtryck utlyser nu SLS forskningsanslag, på upp till 300 000 per anslag. Den som är läkare och disputerad för högst tio år sedan är behörig att söka.
Forskningsprojekt för medicinsk forskning - Projektmedel kan sökas av läkare som är medlemmar i SLS och disputerat för högst 10 år sedan. Projektet ska vara genomförbart inom en tidsperiod av två till tre år och inom en budget av storleksordningen 500 000 kronor per år.
Forskningsanslag för samarbetsprojekt inom primärvården - Syftet är kunskapsöverföring mellan akademi och klinik, eller mellan olika discipliner (tex allmänmedicin och psykiatri). Huvudsökande skall vara läkare från allmänmedicin disputerat för högst 10 år sedan. Till detta ska sedan medsökande från akademi eller annan medicinsk disciplin vara delaktig. Patientnytta/klinisk relevans inom primärvården är av stor vikt vid bedömning. Projektet uppgående till max 500 000 kronor ska vara genomförbart inom en tidsperiod av två år.
Postdoc stipendium - Stipendiet ska möjliggöra för disputerad läkare som är medlem i SLS att efter disputation vara tjänstledig för att bedriva forskning vid en välrenommerad institution utomlands. Stipendiet kan sökas av medlemmar som är läkare och disputerat för högst sju år sedan, företrädesvis yngre forskare.
Thomas Ihre stipendium - för medlemmar i Svensk Kirurgisk Förening (SKF) som vill vidareutvecklas inom gastrokirurgi. Stipendiet på 50 000 kronor kan sökas för auskultation eller forskningsvistelse på annan klinik, eller till kliniskt projekt för att stimulera fortbildning och forskning inom gastrokirurgi (gäller ej för kongressresa).

The Cure Parkinson's Trust invites applications for its research grants. These support laboratory or clinical research projects that have the potential to cure Parkinson's disease. Applications must be for research that slows, stops or reverses underlying disease progression. Priority is given to research which has potential to translate into the clinic within five years. Applications are invited world wide.

Rising Star fellowship programme - European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD)
The European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes, in collaboration with Novo Nordisk, invites applications for its rising star fellowships programme. This enables researchers in the field of diabetes to present an overview of their past and ongoing research activities during a multidisciplinary research symposium at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes annual meeting. The aim is to identify young researchers who are developing their research activities in Europe and encourage innovative research in the field of diabetes.
Applicants must be paid-up members of the EASD and have received their highest degree no more than five years for basic scientists or seven years for clinicians before 1 January in the year the fellowship is awarded. Applicants must be employed by a non-profit institution based in Europe or an associated country.

Gold medal - European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO)
The European Molecular Biology Organisation invites nominations for its gold medal. This recognises a young scientist and their contributions to the life sciences in Europe.
Nominations are invited from EMBO members and EMBO young investigators. Molecular biologists currently working in one of the EMBC member states who are under the age of 40, or within 10 years of having obtained their PhD or equivalent, may be nominated.
The winner will receive a bursary worth €10,000 and a medal.

Abstract: The Blueprint Neurotherapeutics Network (BPN) invites applications from neuroscience investigators seeking support to advance their small molecule drug discovery and development projects into the clinic. Participants in the BPN are responsible for conducting all studies that involve disease- or target-specific assays, models, and other research tools and receive funding for all activities to be conducted in their own laboratories. In addition, applicants will collaborate with NIH-funded consultants and can augment their project with NIH contract research organizations (CROs) that specialize in medicinal chemistry, pharmacokinetics, toxicology, formulations development, chemical synthesis including under Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Phase I clinical testing. Projects can enter either at the Discovery or the Development stage. In the Discovery phase the goal is to characterize and optimize promising hit compounds using medicinal chemistry to establish structure activity relationships (SAR) and structure property relationships (SPR) including in vitro and in vivo properties such as metabolism, selectivity, toxicity, etc. As projects enter or advance to the Development stage the goal is to advance a single development candidate through Investigational New Drug (IND)-enabling toxicology studies and phase I clinical testing. Science for Africa Foundation, Kenya – Call for Applications: Epidemic Science Leadership and Innovation Networks

Amount: Applicants should prepare a core budget over five to six years for up to USD $4 million.
Eligibility: The primary location of proposed EPSILON initiatives must be in Africa, and preliminary applications are invited from universities and research institutions based across the continent. Institutions outside Africa are invited to collaborate on applications led by an African institution.
Abstract: Science for Africa Foundation invites applications for innovative research initiatives in epidemic and pandemic research, preparedness and response. Applications should take into consideration pressing local, national and regional research priorities, resources, current environments, and existing capacity and preparedness levels. Initiatives should be broadly associated to one of the thematic research areas detailed below, but transdisciplinary research is encouraged, and applicants should outline how they might draw upon a broad range of expertise within their proposed programme. We emphasise that we are looking for visionary consortia which will develop their own programmes of relevant research work. The proposed activities can be along the continuum of basic-translational-clinicalapplied-implementation-operational research and policy engagement.
