STINT, Stiftelsen för internationalisering av högre utbildning och forskning, tillsammans med Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) utlyser stipendier för forskningsvistelser i Japan. JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (Short-term) är öppet för forskning inom humaniora, naturvetenskap och samhällsvetenskap. Program erbjuder stipendier för 1 forskningsvistelse i Japan till PhD-studenter som är i slutfasen av sin utbildning, liksom nyligen examinerade doktorer under en period av 1 till 12 månader. Stipendier inkluderar resekostnader, en månatlig ersättning på 362 000 JPY för disputerad (PhD) och 200 000 JPY för icke-disputerad forskare, ett insättningsbidrag och försäkring.

Swedish Childhood Cancer Fund
- Methodological studies and educational courses: enables researchers within the area of paediatric oncology to take up studies and educational courses abroad for up to three months.
- PhD courses: funding for organizing PhD courses within the field of pediatric oncology. The applicant should be active in the field of childhood cancer.
- Symposia: funding for for the organization of 1-2-day research symposia within the area of paedriatic oncology. The applicant should be active in the field of childhood cancer.

Excellence emerging investigator grant within endocrinology and metabolism, Nordic region - Novo Nordisk Foundation
With this call the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF) seeks to support and strengthen the development of young and promising research leaders, and to promote Nordic research at a high international level. The call is targeted starting group leaders with ambitious projects within endocrinology and metabolism that aim to understand the human organism and the mechanisms underlying health and disease at a basic and clinical level. Four grants are available for funding and NNF aims at awarding at least one of these grants to an active clinician researcher. Grants are worth up to DKK 10 million each over 5 years.

Announcement of seed funding within the field of oral health for collaboration with National Dental Centre Singapore
The internationalisation advisory council is pleased to announce the availability of limited competitive funds for grant applications to strengthen collaborative interactions within oral health and innovations. The funds are to be used as “seed grants” aiming at starting or sustaining bilateral collaborations with Singapore within the field of oral health innovations and biotechnologies, in order to address emerging issues in global health. The funding can be used to facilitate writing of joint applications to major granting agencies or be used for joint training of research staff and students.

Forskningsbidrag från Märta Lundqvists Stiftelse år 2022/2023
Stiftelsens övergripande syfte är att främja forskningen om den mänskliga hjärnan vid svenska universitet. Särskilt kommer patientrelaterad och kliniskt fokuserad forskning att prioriteras. Stiftelsen har även som målsättning att stimulera yngre forskare.
Forskningsprogrammet ska innehålla tydliga mål så att resultatet av erhållna medel kan utvärderas. Storleken på utdelningsbara medel i år uppgår till 2 7 40 000 kronor.
Vem kan söka anslag?
Utlysningen riktar sig till forskare vid svenska universitet med avlagd doktorsexamen (bevis i bilaga) inom tidsramen 5 år, dvs efter 1 januari 2018. Avräkning av tid kan ske för föräldraledighet och tid för eventuell klinisk tjänstgöring inom hälso- och sjukvården.
Stiftelsen har som policy att inte stödja ett och samma projekt i mer än 5 år. Dock kan undantag ske i särskilda fall.

Europeiska anslag
Research unit - European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology
The European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology, with support from Sandoz, invites applications for its research unit. This supports collaborative research in paediatric endocrinology.
Members of ESPE may apply. Each application must include at least one principal investigator and two co-investigators who are ESPE members. Non-ESPE members may participate as additional co-investigators. Applications that consist of investigators from at least three different countries are encouraged. The majority of the research should be performed at the investigators’ centre.
One large grant is available annually. The large grant is worth €100,000 for a period of two years. The large grant covers salary, materials and consumables, small items of equipment, collaborative visits and overheads.

Research grants - Cure Parkinson’s Trust
The Cure Parkinson’s Trust invites applications for its research grants. These support laboratory or clinical research projects that have the potential to cure Parkinson’s disease. Eppendorf award for young European investigators - Eppendorf AG
The Eppendorf AG, in partnership with the scientific journal Nature, invites entries for its award for young European investigators. This recognises contributions to biomedical research in Europe based on methods of molecular biology, including novel analytical concepts.
European researchers, not older than 35 years, who hold a PhD or MD and who are performing biomedical research in Europe based on methods of molecular biology, including novel analytical concepts, may apply.
The award consists of €20,000 plus coverage of the prize winner’s work by Nature in print and online, an invitation to the prize ceremony and a visit to the Eppendorf SE in Hamburg, Germany.

Research grant - Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation
The Italian Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation invites applications for its research grant. This supports research projects aiming to improve the health status of cystic fibrosis patients. Research projects dealing with either clinical studies or pre-clinical studies exploiting animal models of CF are strongly encouraged. Priority areas include:
•innovative therapies to correct defective CFTR or to compensate for its deficient function;
•identification and validation of new and appropriate in vivo and ex vivo assays to predict and monitor the potential efficacy of new therapies finalised to correct the CFTR defect;
•airway infection in CF – development of innovative diagnostic and antimicrobial strategies with special indication for the rapid and accurate diagnosis of infections and the treatment of difficult-to-treat microorganisms;
•inflammation in CF – innovative strategies to contain the inflammation-based pathology;
•clinical applications and epidemiological studies.
If PIs and multicentre project co-ordinators live and work in another European country, at least one partner in the project must be resident and work in Italy.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to stimulate basic technology-focused research to develop next-generation human cell-derived microphysiological systems (MPS) and related assays with improved fidelity to complex human brain, spinal cord, and/or sensory end organ circuit physiology, which will ultimately facilitate analysis of higher order functional deficits relevant to complex nervous system diseases. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will support projects that investigate the effects of addictive substances on developmental trajectories of molecularly-defined central nervous system (CNS) cells and circuits. Emphasis is on carrying out systematic and highly granular quantitative characterizations of the impact of in utero and/or postnatal substance exposure on the numbers, spatial distribution and connectivity of molecularly-defined cells, across whole brains or within distributed circuits of clinical relevance. The ultimate goals of the program are to identify critical developmental windows and cellular mechanisms mediating the protracted developmental impact of addictive substances, and to inform clinical practice, by complementing the data from human longitudinal neuroimaging studies such as the HEALthy Brain and Child Development (HBCD) Study and the Adolescent Brain Cognative Development (ABCD) Study.

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute invites applications for its Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Advancing Research in Lipoprotein(a) and Cardiovascular Disease (R01 Clinical Trials Allowed) and (R01 No Clinical Trials Allowed) funding opportunity. This supports research on lipoprotein(a) and its role in cardiovascular disease (CVD). Multidisciplinary collaborations to conduct basic, preclinical, and mechanistic clinical studies on Lp(a) and CVD are encouraged. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to the following:
- Study the biosynthesis of apo(a), endogenous Lp(a) particle assembly, secretion, and clearance
- Elucidate the relationship between Lp(a) structure and function
- Investigate the route of Lp(a) catabolism in both physiological and altered conditions and identify relevant receptors

The Zenith Fellows Award Program, Alzheimer’s Association, US
The Alzheimer’s Association, with sponsorship from the Zenith Society, invites letters of intent for the Zenith fellows award. This enables established independent investigators to work on the advancement of Alzheimer’s and other dementias research. Research must be on the cutting edge of basic biomedical research and therefore may challenge the prevailing orthodoxy. It should address fundamental problems related to early detection, aetiology, pathogenesis, treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
Eligibility: Applicants must hold an academic appointment, have received major, peer-reviewed, external grant support and have a good publication record. They must have already contributed significantly to the field of Alzheimer’s or have the clear likelihood of making significant contributions. Previous recipients are not eligible. Scientists from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
Budget: Up to three awards may be granted. Each award is worth up to USD 450,000 for up to three years. Requests in any given year may not exceed USD 250,000 and indirect costs may not exceed 10%.

Grant programmes, Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics, US
Impact Grant Programme. The Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics invites applications for its impact grant programme. This supports large therapeutic translational research platform projects from pre-clinical to IND-enabling stage. The award is open to novel approaches or repurposing approved or other clinically safe therapies evaluated in other disease indications that could advance Angelman syndrome research. Eligibility: Open to all. Budget: Grants are worth up to USD 1 million per year. Each award will also include a USD 3,000 travel stipend to allow for the PI and one trainee to travel to the annual FAST scientific symposium. FAST allows up to 10% indirect cost rate to the budget’s modified total direct costs to be included in the total cost of the project.
New investigator award. The Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics invites applications for its new investigator award. This supports a new scientist that is looking to start a significant research programme focusing on translational research in Angelman syndrome, or on technologies specifically relevant to advancing Angelman Syndrome treatment modalities. Eligibility: Applicants should be within their first five years of an academic position at an institution or university. They should have either accepted an offer or already been appointed to an academic position and have a history of research in a relevant field. Budget: Grants are worth USD 250,000 per year for two years. A third year extension worth USD 125,000 may be requested. FAST allows up to 10% indirect cost rate to the budget’s modified total direct costs to be included in the total cost of the project.
Postdoctoral fellowship programme. The Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics invites applications for its postdoctoral fellowship programme. This aims to encourage therapeutic translational research agendas focusing on potential treatments, research, or biomarker and outcome measure development that will greatly enhance the progress of these platforms toward human benefit for Angelman syndrome. Preference will be given to research projects that have a translational application to human benefit. Eligibility: Research clinicians must devote full-time to their proposed research training and must restrict clinical duties within their full-time research training experience to activities that are directly related to the research training experience. Budget: Grants consist of a yearly stipend worth USD 46,000, a travel allowance of USD 1,500 and research expenses worth USD 3,000. Fellowships are awarded for the period of one year and may be renewed for a second year, based on satisfactory progress. FAST does not allow indirect costs for this grant.

Cross-Species Studies of ASD, Simons Foundation, US
The Simons Foundation invites applications for its cross-species studies of ASD funding opportunity. This supports multi-disciplinary teams of PIs with expertise in both human and animal research to perform coordinated cross-species studies to advance our understanding of ASD-relevant behaviors and their underlying neurobiological mechanisms, with the potential for developing novel biomarkers or interventions. This also supports research on ASD-relevant behaviours and their underlying neurobiological mechanisms conducted in parallel across human and non-human animals. Beyond measuring behaviors in parallel across species, special emphasis is placed on furthering our understanding of the underlying neurobiological mechanisms with an eye towards developing novel biomarkers or interventions.
Eligibility: PIs who do not have substantial expertise with ASD participants should include a close collaborator with such expertise on their grant application.
Budget: Grants are worth up to USD 400,000 for up to three years, inclusive of 20% indirect costs.

Bridge to success grant for early-career investigators, American Academy of Sleep Medicine, US
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine invites submissions for its bridge to success grant for early-career investigators. This provides bridge funding to early-career sleep and circadian scientists who have unsuccessfully applied for a career development award, such as a K-award grant from the National Institutes of Health, a career development award from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, or an equivalent career development grant from another federal or non-federal entity, to assist investigators to stay in the sleep field.
Eligibility: Individuals with the following education and training are eligible to apply: sleep scientists (MD, DO, DDS, DMD, DNP, DNSc, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent) who have applied for a multi-year career development grant from the NIH, VA or another granting body in the field of sleep or circadian science within the past two years that was scored in the peer-review process but fell below (or is likely to fall below) the funding agency’s pay line. Individuals who have received independent research funding of more than $150,000 are not eligible to apply. This does not apply to post-doctoral/ fellowship level training grants primarily covering the applicant’s salary (e.g. NRSAs).
Budget: The grant provides funds for one year and can be for up to USD 100,000 per grant (includes direct and indirect costs). There are no restrictions on the distribution of expenses, however, indirect costs are capped at 8%.
