Research Grants  –  Medtech4Health – innovators in health and care

Vinnova, the Swedish Energy Agency and Formas invites application for grants to innovators in health and care from the program Medtech4Health. These support the development and commercialization of medical technical solutions in health care. The solutions may be a physical product, a service, a process or an organizational change and should aim to solve a defined challenge.

Grants are worth between SEK 300,000 and SEK 1m for up to two years. For projects applying for more than SEK 500,000 co-financing for the part above SEK 500,000 is required and must be at least 30 per cent. Grants cover costs for staff, depreciation costs for instruments, equipment and buildings, consults and licences, other direct costs such as material and travel and indirect costs.

Announcement of seed funding within the field of oral health for collaboration with National Dental Centre Singapore

The internationalisation advisory council is pleased to announce the availability of limited competitive funds for grant applications to strengthen collaborative interactions within oral health and innovations. The funds are to be used as “seed grants” aiming at starting or sustaining bilateral collaborations with Singapore within the field of oral health innovations and biotechnologies, in order to address emerging issues in global health. The funding can be used to facilitate writing of joint applications to major granting agencies or be used for joint training of research staff and students.

Researchers may have a background in the fields of ethnology, psychology, neurobiology, human palaeontology or archaeology.

The prize is worth €100,000.

These support clinical or fundamental research projects focused on human gut microbiota related to health and disease. For the current round, projects must focus on the new metabolites and small molecules, or novel functions of previously described metabolites, from gut microbiota that have an impact on gut mucosal pathways relevant to human health and disease.

Physicians, PhDs and doctors of pharmacy working in subject areas such as gastroenterology, paediatrics, microbiology, infectious diseases and internal medicine and based anywhere in the world may apply. Researchers must be affiliated with universities, hospitals or other research settings. Previous winners cannot apply anymore.

The grant is worth €200,000 over one to three years.

This aims to stimulate and accelerate European research focusing on the identification and molecular understanding of new targets for the treatment of type 2 diabetes or obesity-related metabolic diseases. Areas of research emphasis may include:

•new targets for improving skeletal muscle or adipose tissue insulin resistance;

•the role of lipid droplets in the aetiology of metabolic fatty liver disease;

•mechanisms of glucose-dependent insulin and glucagon secretion;

•regulation of liver flat content by gut hormones or the microbiome.

Single non-profit institutions or groups of such institutions from Europe and associated countries may apply. Grants are worth up to €100,000 each for projects lasting one year or longer.

Accelerating new treatments versus arthritis -- Versus Arthritis, GB and other funders

This supports mechanistic experimental or translational medicine studies in humans across the areas of prevention, diagnosis or treatment that are aimed at priming the next transitional step. Studies can employ novel design, exploratory endpoints, biomarkers, imaging, big data or profiling or stratification approaches. Studies can also include digital technology solutions and account for co- or multi-morbidities. Applications are expected to have meaningful patient involvement as well as participation, from the beginning in terms of the design and delivery of the study.

Applications should involve at least two key organisations of the Musculoskeletal Translational Research Collaboration as a lead or co-applicant or collaborator. Studies are encouraged to include industry partners and international partners. At least one of the applicants must have a tenured position within a UK university, hospital or recognised academic research institute.

Grants are worth up to £300,000 each for up to three years.

Closing date 01 December 2022 (Forecast; we have no information from the funder yet about the next call. Based on past experience, we forecast the deadline to be around December 2022. This call is repeated once a year.)

To meet the intent of the award mechanism, TERP applications must address at least one of the Program Goals listed below.

  • Elucidate mechanisms of how toxic exposures result in adverse effects, including, but not limited to, toxicities, malignancies, neurologic and respiratory disorders, cardiac complications, sleep disorders, immune system dysfunction, gastrointestinal issues, etc.

Through this new funding opportunity announcement (FOA), the National Cancer Institute (NCI) intends to focus on basic mechanistic and translational studies using the R21 grant mechanism to investigate HIV and cancer in underrepresented groups. Career Development Award: The Foundation Fighting Blindness invites applications for its career development awards. These help advance junior clinical research scientists in their professional endeavours to cure retinal degenerative disease by facilitating advances in laboratory and clinical research; elucidating the mechanism for the cause and pathogenesis of retinal degenerative diseases; and developing innovative strategies to prevent, treat and cure these diseases. Eligibility: Clinician-scientists possessing an MD, DO, or recognised equivalent foreign degree and who are in their first, second, or third year of a junior faculty appointment, are eligible. Individual Investigator/Clinical Innovation Awards: Individual Investigator Research Awards are designed to concentrate research in areas with the greatest potential to move toward treatments and cures for the inherited orphan retinal degenerative diseases and dry age-related macular degeneration. Discovery grant program, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, US

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, in partnership with the Mark Foundation for Cancer Research and the Paul G Allen Frontiers Group, invites letters of intent for its discovery grant program. This supports research that is discovery oriented, concerned with understanding blood cancer properties and vulnerabilities and aimed toward advancing treatments for blood cancers. Examples of projects of potential interest include:

  • cellular activities that underlie the behavior and vulnerabilities of blood cancer cells.
  • resistance mechanisms including immune evasion, resistant clone evolution and cellular changes underlying development of resistance to chemotherapies.
  • novel biomarkers or techniques to detect and monitor blood cancer development and progression.
  • discovery of neoantigens, including those that may reside outside of coding regions.
  • blood cancer cell interactions with the microenvironment and with the immune system, including exploration of novel immune synapses.
