Seminar description

Jessica Edstorp has a MSc in Public Health from Uppsala university and is now a 3rd year PhD student at the unit of Epidemiology, Institute of Environmental Medicine, Karolinska institutet. Her research focus is on modifiable risk factors for adult-onset diabetes, particularly latent autoimmune diabetes in adults but also type 2 diabetes, and how these risk factors may potentially interact with genetic susceptibility. She is the first author of two publications and co-author of one publication where tobacco use is studied in relation to LADA, type 1, and type 2 diabetes.

Jessica will present a study on tobacco use and genetic susceptibility in relation to LADA, which was recently published in Diabetologia. In this study, they used data from two observational studies as well as a Mendelian randomization design to investigate the association between tobacco use and LADA and to elucidate potential interaction with risk genotypes of the human leucocyte antigen gene complex.
